Southern California auto maker announces fully-electric sedan

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

While hybrid vehicles have found considerable popularity in the United States since their introduction, one difficulty associated with the rollout of a fully electric car has been the comparably high price and poor performance, compared to an internal combustion engine-driven car of similar size. Tesla Motors claims that their Model S, a sedan which runs solely on electricity, will be more affordable.

Tesla first entered the automobile market in 2006, with a prototype of an electric vehicle designed on the roadster style. While the car, whose exterior design was based on the Lotus Elise, accelerated well and had considerable range, its cost of US$109,000 was prohibitive for many and to date only 300 have been sold, with a thousand more ordered.

Tesla says, however, that the Model S could sell for around $56,400, with the actual price some $7,500 lower after a Federal Government tax credit on electric vehicles.

Tesla claims the Model S has a range of up to 450 kilometers (280 miles) without recharging and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h (125 mph). It is powered by a 454 kg (1001 lb) battery pack.

Initial plans were to build the car in New Mexico, but instead the Model S will be built near the company’s headquarters in San Jose, California.

Handy Tips To Use Spotlight On Your Ios 7 Device}

Submitted by: Brooke M. Perry

You might at a given time face a trouble because of clutter of apps on your iPhone, iPod Touch or your iPad. You might need to go through the entire stack of apps to locate something that you are looking for. However, there is a way to overcome time consumed in conducting search if only you know about it.

Given below are some handy tips to use Spotlight effectively on your iOS 7 device:

Reveal and Access Spotlight

The Spotlight is now enhanced with iOS 7 Apple mobile OS that gives you a better and clearer view of the app. The best part is that you dont require hunting the app first and then launching it for searching anything. Just place a finger on the screen and swipe down to reveal Search field. However, remember that this function cannot be used if you are already in a folder.

Performing Search

Now that you have accessed Spotlight – just type in the words and the relevant options will start appearing instantly. You will be easily able to carry out search within various fields including notes, contacts, music, and applications. Your list will be made according to searches that you perform that would be easy for you to conduct next time.

After locating what you are looking for tap on the item to access it.

Use the Delete key to start new search or X for removing current search. Cancel key will help you escape Spotlight and bring you back to previously running program.

Customize Spotlight

You must be wondering if you need to really go along with what is offered or you can actually customize Spotlight. You can customize your Spotlight and for that go to Settings-> General->Spotlight Search. This will reveal twelve items list to you that will contain various categories. Each category is relevant to what Spotlight can bring you. If you want to eliminate a category then just tap to delete it.

By default, you will be able to see the contacts at the top of the list. Then move to the Top Hit section that contains sections that are always kept on high priority even after you choose to de-select. If you want you can choose to reorder your list that will help you put your favorite category on the top of the list.

Looking up Files

There are times when you need to look for files and documents on your iPhone and to meet such requirements the Spotlight can help you best. The best part is that using this app you need not bother to remember in which file or folder you need to specifically conduct your search. At times, when you need to conduct quick search, Spotlight comes handy to do it all for you. You need not go into a specific document to use in-search tab but launch this app and find instantly what you are looking for.

Other things like looking up songs will land you directly in iTunes and the place from where you can purchase it. Links to App Store too will appear immediately when you are looking up to purchase something to make the entire search process convenient and more result oriented.

Why A Little Goes A Long Way With Table Top Trade Show Displays

April, 2015 byadmin

A larger trade show display, such as the 20 by 20 booths, are not the only types of booths than can make an impact at a trade show. When you choose the right design, tabletop trade show displays can be just as effective and save you money and space.

A large misconception regarding trade show booths is the bigger the better – the bigger you go, the more results you will see. However, this is not completely true. If you organize your booth space well and create a look with graphics that really make a statement, a portable, table top display can be as effective as larger convention booths.

Table top displays are extremely affordable and offered in a number of shapes that will help you to stand out during an event. Some of the tabletop displays that are currently available are highlighted here.

Pop Up Displays

These are most well-known for their ease of assembly and vibrant, crisp graphics. These are fabric table top displays that come in both six and eight foot size options. A nice feature of these booths is that the graphics are able to be interchanged to create a new look from show to show.

The Hybrid Table Top Display

This is one of the latest offerings when it comes to table top displays for trade shows. They are called hybrids because they integrate the traditional construction of a booth with modern materials. You can also attach lights to these options to illuminate your entire booth.

Green Booths

More and more trade show exhibitors are going green with their displays by using recyclable materials for the frame, shelves and graphic panels. They even use LED lighting to ensure energy efficiency. There are a number of configurations and sizes available that will create an attractive tabletop booth.

Fabric Tension Displays

These booths feature fabric pulled over the frame in a type of pillowcase manner. This provides a wrinkle free, flawless look. This type of display has a 3D appearance and only takes a few minutes to set up. You can also change out the graphics in order to create a fresher look from show to show.

Even when you have a limited budget, you can create a great looking boot at your next trade show. Simply find which option of table top displays are best for you and then customize it for your business or brand.

Arson suspected in Namdaemun gate fire in Seoul

Monday, February 11, 2008

Around 8:50 p.m. Korean Standard Time (11:50 UTC) on Sunday, a fire broke out at Sungnyemun Gate (more commonly referred to as Namdaemun Gate), one of the most iconic South Korean landmarks, located in the center of Seoul.

Approximately 30 firetrucks and 90 firefighters were sent to the site and were able to bring the initial blaze under control by around 10:30 p.m.

However, around 10:40 p.m., the fire rekindled at the second floor of the gate, as firefighters were in the process of extinguishing embers. By 11:00 p.m. the fire had spread over to the roof of the gate. The Korean Fire Department reports that the second blaze had started as the Department was seeking permission from the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration to dismantle parts of the gate in order to stop any possible further fires from spreading.

At about 12:40 a.m. of the 11th, the second floor had collapsed, and the fire was spreading to the first floor; at 1:50 a.m. the first floor collapsed.

Officials have yet to reach a conclusion on the origin of fire, and have presented three possibilities; arson, electric faults or accidental origins.

As the interior of the second floor of the Gate is off-limits to civilians, the Korean Fire Department initially eliminated the possibility of arson, and stated that an electric short or spark from the electric lighting could have been the cause. This possibility was later discarded as a firefighter reported, after examination, that there was no electric wiring on the second floor, as Korean Cultural Heritage Administration regulations prohibit it.

Three eye-witnesses have submitted testimonies. A taxi driver has reported seeing a man in his fifties climb up the staircase carrying a shopping bag, shortly after seeing sparks. Police have stated that the driver’s testimony differs in several crucial factors from the other two witnesses.

Firefighters have reported finding two cigarette lighters on the second floor, inceasing the possibility of arson as the cause.

Police have been unable to obtain evidence from the four closed circuit televisions(CCTVs) installed around the gate.

Officials of the Korean Cultural Heritage Administration have stated that restoration will take two to three years and will cost 20 billion won, equivalent of 21 million USD.

Officials report that no sprinklers or fire alarms were installed inside the gate, and only eight fire extinguishers were placed on both the first and second floor.

Namdaemun, built during the Joseon Dynasty, is the oldest wooden structure in Seoul and was entitled ‘National Treasure No. 1’ in 1962 after restoration.

In recent years, arsons started by evangelical Christians have damaged many Buddhist temples and Korean momuments.

South Australia enters week-long lockdown to contain COVID-19 Delta variant spread

Friday, July 23, 2021

With five active cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, South Australia begun a one-week lockdown on Monday. Announcing the lockdown, state Premier Steven Marshall declared “we have no alternative but to impose some fairly heavy and immediate restrictions”.

The first case out of South Australia’s active cases was presented to Modbury Hospital on Sunday night, having returned from Argentina earlier this month. The fifth, which Premier Marshall noted as “far more worrying”, visited The Greek on Halifax restaurant at the same time as someone who was later confirmed to be carrying the virus. Chief Public Health Officer for the state Nicola Spurrier said “if anyone has been at The Greek on Halifax they need to get into quarantine and get tested”.

In accordance with new regulations, there are only five reasons for South Australians to leave home: essential work, shopping for essential goods such as food, exercise, but only with people from the same household and within 2.5 kilometers (2 mi) of home, medical reasons (which includes testing and vaccination against the coronavirus, but excludes elective and cosmetic surgery), and caregiving.

Schools have closed for all but children of essential workers, with online learning having begun on Thursday. Face masks are also be mandated for those who leave home. ABC News reported that “support for businesses is expected to be announced…”, with all non-essential retail required to close under the new regulations.

New Zealand’s anti-spam legislation kicks in – exclusive report

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Freelance journalist, Gabriel Pollard, spoke to Joe Stewart and David Farrar about the new anti-spam legislation in New Zealand that comes into effect today. Joe Stewart is the Unit Manager of the Department of Internal Affairs new Anti-Spam Compliance Unit, and David Farrar is Chair of InternetNZ’s Public Policy Committee, who also had significant input into the final bill.

Keith Norris, CEO of the New Zealand Marketing Association, didn’t respond to multiple requests for an interview.

The anti-spam legislation, or the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, promotes spam education and awareness and will enable international agencies to work together to share information and will enable cross-border pursuit of serious law breakers. And it doesn’t just cover e-mail spam, but all electronic messaging such as SMS/text messaging, etc.

However, New Zealand isn’t the most up-to-date country with implementing similar legislation, Farrar says, “We are in fact almost the last country in the OECD to have such legislation.” He urges Eastern Europe and China to take part in the fight against spam.

Stewart said that the new law would only help combat a small amount of spam, as 99%-99.9% of all spam received originates from overseas. He says the legislation alone will not solve the problem.

As well as it helping to fight New Zealand-sourced spam and preventing New Zealand from “becoming a haven for spammers”, it will promote good practices within the e-marketing community, Stewart said.

The new Act will affect legitimate marketers in New Zealand by making sure they have expressed or inferred consent to continue sending marketing messages to people on their database. Inferred consent is where the marketers have the e-mail address and send messages to those on their database, but didn’t get expressed consent to send messages. Stewart does issue a warning against using inferred consent saying, “They may have been sending these people messages for years, but this does not establish consent.”

A surge in emails has also been felt with companies/marketers making sure they have consent to continue the e-mails and asking those to confirm they wish to continue their subscription.

“However, many marketers are already fulfilling these requirements because they are standard good e-marketing practice,” Stewart said.

Due to legislative requirements, as well as having consent, businesses will have to provide details about the company sending the item, and provide a free way to unsubscribe from future mailings.

Those found breaking these requirements deliberately could find themselves facing a personal fine of up to NZ$200,000. Organisations could face a fine of up to $500,000. Farrar said, “Experience from Australia shows most cases are dealt with by way of education.”

Farrar also gives a final piece of advice to those annoyed with spam levels, “Never ever respond to a spam e-mail, and only give your real address out to people you trust.”
